Transferring the Injection from the Vial to the Syringe

Preparing the Injection

Inspect the vial carefully for any damage or leakage. The cap should also be tightly affixed to the vial and must be popped open. If the cap has been tampered with or the vial is damaged, contact our customer service department immediately. Do not use any vials if the cap has been broken or damaged.

Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the vial, and carefully remove the cap from the vial. Wipe the top of the vial with and clean alcohol swab and let it air dry for 10 seconds. Repeat this step every time the vial is handled.

Remove the plastic needle guard from the syringe. Pull back on the end of plunger until you fill the syringe with one cc of air.

Insert the needle gently into the center of the vial’s rubber stopper. Push the plunger down to inject the air into the vial. The air pressure inside the vial helps push the liquid down into the syringe.

Turn the vial of medication upside down and hold it firmly in one hand. Make sure the tip of the needle is submerged in the liquid, and pull back on the plunger with your other hand. Once you’ve withdrawn the proper amount of fluid, slowly pull the needle out of the vial.

Hold the syringe with the needle pointing straight up, and gently tap on the side of the tube with your finger to loosen any air bubbles. Draw back the plunger slightly to collect the bubbles near the base of the needle, and then push the plunger slowly to eject the air.

Look closely at the measurements on the side of the syringe to make sure you have the proper dosage. Replace the plastic cover over the needle until you’re ready to give the injection.

Administering the Injection

Pull back or remove clothing to completely expose the chosen injection site. Wipe the exposed skin with an alcohol swab in a circular motion and let it dry for 10 seconds.

Pull the plastic needle cap, and hold the syringe like you would a pencil.

3b

Squeeze the skin over the designated injection site between your thumb and index finger. Hold the syringe in the other hand, approximately 2 inches above the injection site, at a 90-degree angle (perpendicular to the injection site). Push the needle quickly into the skin, using a smooth, jab-like movement.

Pull back gently on the syringe (aspirate); if no blood appears in the vial, slowly depress the plunger to inject the medication. If you see any hints of blood in the vial, discard the syringe and start again.

Withdraw the needle and apply gentle pressure with a clean alcohol swab for a few seconds to sanitize the injection to help prevent a possible injection.
